Each student is given the exact same experience and opportunities to learn, which is why each student must have the exact same 2-in-1 laptop. It’s not possible to use a device that you already own. The price payable by parents is for a full device and service package, and not just for the device.
In order for a student device programme (1:1) to work seamlessly and for the full benefit of students, there are a number of essential services that are needed.
These services are extensive, and the role of the teacher in the classroom is to teach, so without these services, that wouldn’t be possible. And for parents at home, the expectation is not that you become a tech expert, but instead you have all of the necessary supports available to you too.
The device must be for educational use only and fit for purpose (inc. Touch Screen, Screen Size, Battery Life, etc.). Some Laptops or tablets, even very expensive ones, may just not be a good fit for the classroom. For example, they may not have touch screens, they may be too big or too small, they may not have all day battery life, they may not work with certain Apps or facilities, etc.
The same settings and restrictions can’t be applied across different types of Laptops or Tablets. For example, it just wouldn’t work if some students could access games, Snapchat or TikTok or anything else that isn’t appropriate for learning.
Just like teachers - YOU as parents - should not have to be tech experts. We can support these
2-in-1 Laptops - but not where there’s a mix of Laptops or Tablets or where they’re not purchased new.
And remember, these 2-in-1 Laptops are made specifically for students, and they come with everything that is needed to be successfully used for learning.
